LG Dishwasher bE Error Code: What It Means & What to Check
Q: My LG dishwasher is showing bE (or BE). What does it mean, and what should I check?
A: On many LG dishwashers, bE / BE is commonly called a “bubble error”. It usually happens when the dishwasher detects excess suds (often from using the wrong detergent) and may trigger a safety response because suds can contribute to leaks. It can also show up if the dishwasher is not level, because water and suds can move where they shouldn’t.
Safety first if you see suds or a leak
- If you see water on the floor, stop the cycle.
- If needed, turn the dishwasher off at the breaker before pulling it out or reaching under it.
- Use towels to protect cabinets and flooring.
Step 1: Confirm you’re using dishwasher detergent only
This is the #1 cause of bE/BE. Use only detergent labeled for automatic dishwashers (pods, powder, or gel made for dishwashers).
Do not use: hand dish soap, “sink” soap, multi-purpose cleaners, or anything that foams heavily. Even a small amount can create a lot of suds.
Step 2: Clear suds safely (don’t add more soap)
If you have visible suds inside the tub:
- Remove dishes (rinse them in the sink if they’re soapy).
- Scoop out or wipe out as much foam as you can with a towel.
- Run a rinse-only cycle (or a short cycle with no detergent) to flush suds out.
- If suds come back, repeat rinse-only until foam is gone.
Tip: Suds can hide water leaks. Once the tub is clear, it’s easier to tell if you have a true leak or just foam overflow.
Step 3: Make sure the dishwasher is level
LG bE/BE can also be related to leveling. A dishwasher that’s tipped forward/sideways can let water and suds shift toward the door and lower corners.
- Open the door and check if it feels like it “falls” open or swings shut on its own.
- Look for gaps where the unit meets the counter/cabinets.
- If you have a basic bubble level, check front-to-back and side-to-side.
If it’s out of level, adjust the feet (or have a technician do it) so the tub sits evenly.
Step 4: Check for simple “suds made it look like a leak” issues
Excess foam can push water out in places it normally wouldn’t. Once suds are cleared, check:
- Door seal/gasket for food debris or tears
- Bottom corners of the door area for buildup that prevents a good seal
- Filter area for heavy grease/food that can affect water flow
If the unit runs normally after suds are gone and bE/BE doesn’t return, you likely don’t need parts.
Likely parts (usually none)
Most bE/BE situations are caused by detergent/foam or leveling and don’t require parts. If bE/BE returns even with correct detergent and proper leveling, a technician may inspect for:
- Water in places it shouldn’t be due to a leak condition triggered by suds
- Door seal or door alignment issues
- Less commonly: internal components related to leak detection or water management

FAQ: LG Dishwasher bE / BE Error Code
What does bE (or BE) mean on an LG dishwasher?
bE/BE is commonly a bubble error—the dishwasher detected excessive suds, often from using the wrong detergent, and may stop to prevent leaks.
Can using regular dish soap cause a bE/BE code?
Yes. Hand dish soap creates too many suds for a dishwasher and can trigger bE/BE and even cause water to foam out of the unit.
How do I clear suds without making it worse?
Remove foam with towels, then run rinse-only (no detergent) until suds are gone. Don’t add more cleaner or soap.
Does leveling really matter for bE/BE?
It can. A dishwasher that’s out of level can let water/suds shift toward the door area and trigger bE/BE or leak symptoms.
Do I usually need parts for a bE/BE error?
Usually not. Most bE/BE errors are detergent/suds or leveling related. If it returns with correct detergent and proper leveling, a technician should check for an underlying leak or seal issue.
When should I schedule service?
If bE/BE keeps returning after switching to proper dishwasher detergent and clearing suds—or if you see recurring water on the floor—schedule service to prevent cabinet or flooring damage.
